Waitrose Duchy Organic- Oh dear

I had such high hopes for what turned out to be nothing more than average. I was incredibly excited to try Waitrose Duchy Organic Cottage Cheese. All of their other cottage cheeses I have tried have been exceedingly good, and have become tastier as the fat content increased- my expectations were set.

This is the most expensive cottage cheese I've ever bought, costing a whopping £1.90. It’s also the most calorific by 8 calories per 100, tub- and the highest in fat. All of which would lead me to expect a lovely rich, nay sumptuous, creamy taste. I was instead greeted with a fairly average tasting cottage cheese. It didn’t taste any better than Asda’s, which was 90p cheaper (Though I know production costs are higher for organic products). Now I should state that it was 2 days past its best before date, which will make more of a difference with it being organic. Even if this had marred the taste slightly, cheese certainly never loses taste when it goes off. The texture was also rather disappointing too. It was a sloppy cottage cheese, not my preference. The liquid surrounding the curds was very thick and the curds themselves were few and far between. It felt almost blended before it reached my mouth. There was no plastic lid, which, whilst better for the environment, is not good for spillage prevention. Having just looked at the packaging one more time I realise I have been stung even more than I thought. Not only is this very overpriced cottage cheese fairly average tasting, but the tub is only 250g, not the industry standard 300g- making it even worse value! At least Longely Farm have a cool shaped tub for their 250g. It really isn’t worth wasting your money on this. I’d get yourself down to any budget supermarket and pick up the cheapest thing available, it might even taste better.

Waitrose sells 3 other plain cottage cheeses, all of which are very nice, and much better than this. In my reviews of those I actually recommended paying the £1.50 it would set you back. My initial review on the video was a 5. Having seen that it’s only 250g not 300g I am downgrading this to a 3.5. The only reason it isn’t a 3 is because I appreciate that it’s organic and that they claim at least to have good animal welfare.

Keep it cheesy
