Yester Farm- An east Lothian Delight

Quintessential- Everything a cottage cheese should be and more!

I was in scotland over the summer which gve me the chance to try some cottge cheeses which are not available in the English supermarkets. Yester farm is an artisan, family run, Scottish dairy from Haddington East Lothian. Their cottage cheese is handmade on the family farm and you can definately taste the quality! No wonder it won a good taste a ward in 2020. It is rich, creamy, and delicious. Some natural cottage cheeses with a very rich taste can become somewhat cloying after a few spoonfulls. Absolutely not a problem for this stunner. It is very easy on the mouth in texture and lovely in the throat. I could honestly eat it all day. Looking at their website I can see that they also sell 2kg catering tubs of cottage cheese and I would be very keen to invest. As far as I can see they don't sell a low fat version. though if they did I would review it in a heartbeat.

Nutritionally it is good- as all cottage cheeses tend to be. Per 100g it has 103kcal, 10g of protein (on the lower end- though only by a gram or two), and just 6 grams of fat. (To see how this compares to other cottage cheese I have reviewed check out the stats and graphs section of the website.) Whilst this is 18g for the whole tub I think it is so worth it for the fantastic taste. The only cottage cheese so far which I would put on a par with this would be the Essential Waitrose Natural Cottasge Cheese. There is, however, one area in which Yester Farm triumphs... Packaging. I am always a big fan of cottage cheese tubs that comes with a secure plastic lid but yester farm really goes the extra mile. The tub is very thick and sturdy, with a heavy duty plastic lid that fits really well. This is the type of tub that I would feel very happy reusing for either food or drink. Price wise this was my most expensive one yet, costing £1.50 in Sainsburys. If you've got the money to spend then it's more than worth the money. Personally I'm not in Scotland very often so I'd be more than happy to by it when I am up there. In a regular week I would probably opt for something cheaper like Asda fat free (which comes in at just £1). Overall I would have to give Yester farm a 9.8/10. I really couldn't have asked for anything better!
